Trammell's 3-run homer carries Astros past Blue Jays 7-2

Trammell hit the game’s only home run, a three-run drive in the fifth, and Altuve drove in two runs as Houston beat Toronto at Daikin Park.

Decisive fifth

Trammell delivered the game’s biggest swing with a three-run, 388-foot homer to right in the fifth inning, and the Houston Astros beat the Toronto Blue Jays 7-2 on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Daikin Park.

The homer came after Toronto had pulled even in the same inning. Altuve had already put Houston back in front with an infield single to shortstop that scored Alvarez and moved Walker to second. Trammell followed with a three-run shot that brought in Walker and Altuve, turning a 3-2 Houston lead into a 6-2 margin.

Astros build, Blue Jays answer

Houston scored twice in the fourth. Diaz singled to left to score Altuve and move Trammell to second. Smith then singled to left, and Trammell scored on a play that included a throwing error by left fielder Sánchez, with Smith reaching second and Diaz reaching third.

Toronto tied it in the fifth. Straw tripled to center to score Giménez, then scored on a wild pitch by Wesneski, making it 2-2.

Houston’s response came in the bottom of the fifth with Altuve’s run-scoring infield single and Trammell’s homer. The Astros added their final run in the seventh, when Altuve singled to center to score Walker.

Pitching

Wesneski earned the win for Houston, improving to 2-0 after allowing four hits and two earned runs over 6.0 innings. He walked two and struck out four.

Bennett Sousa pitched 1.0 inning with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout. Enyel De Los Santos pitched 2.0 innings, giving up one hit with no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout.

Chad Dallas took the loss for Toronto, falling to 1-1. He allowed seven hits and six earned runs in 3.0 innings, with four walks and three strikeouts. Trey Yesavage allowed no hits and no earned runs in 2.0 innings, walking one and striking out none. Braydon Fisher, Brendon Little and Mason Fluharty also pitched for Toronto.

Records

The teams combined for nine runs, with Houston scoring seven and Toronto scoring two. Attendance was 30,450 at Daikin Park in Houston, Texas. The Astros improved to 59-56, while the Blue Jays fell to 53-61.
