Clement supplies the late turn

The decisive swing came in the 10th inning, when Clement homered to left for 391 feet and Urías scored, giving Toronto a 5-3 lead after the game had been tied since the sixth. Houston answered in the 10th on Alvarez’s single to right, which scored Peña, but Alvarez was out stretching at second. Houston challenged the play, and the call on the field was upheld.

That final exchange left the Blue Jays with a 5-4 win over the Astros on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Daikin Park. The attendance was 27,751.

Houston builds the first lead

Houston took control in the third inning with three runs. Altuve opened the scoring with a home run to left that traveled 401 feet. Walker followed later in the inning with a double to left that brought in Varsho, and Wade Jr. singled to center to score Walker for a 3-0 Astros lead.

Toronto did all of its regulation scoring in the sixth. Okamoto singled to center to score Straw, cutting the deficit to 3-1. Sánchez then homered to right for 398 feet, with Okamoto scoring on the play, tying the game at 3.

Pitching keeps it even

Jameson Taillon allowed six hits and three earned runs in four innings for Toronto, with two walks and four strikeouts. Hunter Brown worked six innings for Houston, giving up three hits and three earned runs while walking two and striking out eight.

Toronto’s bullpen kept the game within reach. Spencer Miles pitched two innings, allowing two hits with no earned runs, no walks and two strikeouts. Mason Fluharty added one inning with no hits, no walks and two strikeouts.

Tyler Rogers pitched one inning, allowing one hit with no earned runs and no walks. Louis Varland worked one inning with no hits, no earned runs, no walks and one strikeout, earning the win to move to 4-4. Chase Lee pitched one inning, allowing one hit with no earned runs and no walks, and recorded his first save.

Records after the finish

For Houston, Steven Okert, Bryan Abreu and Josh Hader each pitched one inning without allowing a hit or an earned run, combining for four strikeouts. Bennett Sousa allowed two hits and one earned run in one inning and took the loss, falling to 0-1.

Toronto improved to 54-61. Houston fell to 59-57.
