A groundbreaking ceremony launched plans for a new Roosevelt Bridge on US-70 at Lake Texoma. Sherman is about 15 miles north of Van Alstyne. The existing crossing connects Bryan and Marshall counties and carries more than 11,000 vehicles daily along a route serving southern Arkansas, northern Texas and southern Oklahoma.
The Oklahoma Transportation Department hosted the event alongside the project’s design-build team and federal, state, local and Tribal officials. Tim Gatz, the transportation secretary and ODOT executive director, served as emcee. Participants included Federal Highway Administration Administrator Sean McMaster, U.S. Sen. James Lankford, state lawmakers, community members, Zachry Construction representatives and Traylor Bros. representatives.
The replacement is projected to cost more than $408 million and will address the roughly 80-year-old bridge. The plan calls for four lanes, improvements to the US-70 approaches, full shoulders, lighting and a pedestrian path. The Federal Highway Administration’s Bridge Investment Program is providing $124 million, with additional state and federal investment.
Zachry Construction and Traylor Bros. are handling the design-build work after being selected through competitive procurement using a modified progressive design-build process. ODOT also plans to coordinate with local communities and regional partners during construction. No completion date was provided.
