Jake Wofford, a singer-guitarist entering his junior year at Van Alstyne High School this fall, is scheduled to perform Saturday evening as the opening act for the Bellamy Brothers. The concert is part of the city’s Sounds of Summer series and will take place at the Central Social District.

The live performance is set to begin at 7 p.m. Wofford, who started playing the guitar approximately a year and a half ago, expressed surprise at the opportunity. He described the upcoming show as a dream come true.

Wofford noted that musical talent runs through his family, citing his grandfather, father, and great-grandfather as musicians. Despite this lineage, he said his own path was not immediate. While he played with guitars as a child, he did not seriously pick up the instrument until about 18 months ago. He began performing at local gigs roughly seven to eight months later.

He described his musical style as distinct, relying on the rasp in his voice and his personal approach to singing rather than imitating original artists. His original songs are based on his experiences growing up as a teenager and the challenges he has faced.

Wofford credited the Van Alstyne community for its support during his short but rapid rise in music. He also mentioned that this is not his first time performing outside of town, having recently played gigs in Iowa as well as areas near McKinney and Dallas.

Currently, Wofford is working on recording new music, though he stated that nothing has been released yet. Regarding his future goals, he said that while fame is a common desire for musicians, his primary aim is to be a positive influence through his faith.

Details regarding ticket sales or specific setlist choices for the upcoming performance were not provided.
