BJ Edwards, who previously played for the SMU Mustangs, has officially committed to the Oklahoma Sooners. This decision was reported by Joe Tipton of On3. Edwards is set to benefit from a five-for-five temporary injunction that allows the 2022 recruiting class an extra year of eligibility.
After three seasons at SMU, where he was a key player under two different head coaches, Edwards is making the move to Norman. He began his college career at the University of Tennessee but transferred to SMU after appearing in just 14 games.
Edwards had his most successful season last year, averaging 12.7 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 4.9 assists per game, while also earning All-Conference defensive team honors in the ACC.
Despite SMU's interest in keeping him, Edwards opted to join head coach Porter Moser at Oklahoma. The Sooners are looking to strengthen their roster after finishing the last season with a 21-16 record and missing the NCAA Tournament. Edwards' addition is seen as a significant enhancement to the team's competitiveness for the upcoming winter season.
