The Houston Texans have announced that wide receiver Jaylin Noel will be sidelined for several weeks as he recovers from a hamstring injury. This marks the second injury setback for Noel during training camp, following a finger injury he sustained before the end of July.
Details about the severity of the hamstring injury and the expected recovery timeline remain unclear. Noel's absence is particularly significant as the Texans seek to fill the slot receiver position left vacant by veteran Christian Kirk's move to the San Francisco 49ers. Previously, Noel was on the non-football injury (NFI) list but was cleared earlier this month, only to face this new challenge.
Last season, Noel primarily contributed as a returner on special teams, making 26 receptions for nearly 300 yards and scoring two touchdowns. With the regular season approaching, his injury could hinder his integration into the offense, especially as Xavier Hutchinson is currently listed as the third wide receiver on the Texans' preseason depth chart.
Despite Noel's injury, the Texans' depth at the wide receiver position may help alleviate concerns regarding their overall performance. Players such as Lewis Bond and Jared Wayne have been performing well in training camp, and the return of Tank Dell offers additional options. Once Noel recovers, he is expected to play a crucial role as a slot receiver as the season progresses.
