Langford's Power Lifts Texas

Wyatt Langford provided the decisive offensive spark for the Texas Rangers, launching a three-run home run in the third inning that proved to be the difference in a 4-3 win against the San Diego Padres. The 403-foot shot to left field broke a scoreless tie and gave the home crowd at Globe Life Field its first lead of the afternoon.

The blast connected with Higashioka and Lopez, who had reached base earlier in the frame, as the Rangers took a 3-0 advantage. It was the only home run of the contest, a critical moment that shifted the momentum in Arlington.

Padres Rally in Fourth

San Diego answered immediately in the bottom of the fourth inning, mounting a rapid offensive surge that tied the game at 3-3. The Padres loaded the bases and began chipping away at the Rangers' lead. Sheets opened the rally with a single to right field, allowing Merrill to cross the plate and make it 3-1.

Bogaerts followed with a hit to center field, bringing Machado home to narrow the gap to 3-2. Although Sheets was thrown out at home attempting to score on the same play, the momentum continued. Song doubled to right, scoring Bogaerts to tie the game at 3-3. The inning concluded with Jung singling to left, allowing Lopez to score and give the Padres a brief 4-3 lead before the Rangers' defense settled.

Eovaldi's Strikeout Mastery

Nathan Eovaldi was the standout pitcher for Texas, delivering a dominant performance on the mound. He pitched six innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits while striking out nine batters. His ability to keep the Padres off balance was crucial, earning him the win and improving his record to 7-7 on the season.

Eovaldi was supported by a strong relief effort. Peyton Gray and Robby Ahlstrom each pitched a scoreless inning to preserve the tie, with both earning hold credit. Jakob Junis closed out the game with one inning of work, securing the save and his fifth of the year by striking out one batter despite allowing two hits.

Series Context and Records

The loss drops the San Diego Padres to a 39-37 record on the season. Despite the late rally, they could not hold onto their brief fourth-inning lead. Wandy Peralta, Lucas Giolito, Kyle Hart, Ron Marinaccio, and Yuki Matsui combined for the Padres' pitching effort, with Giolito taking the loss, falling to 2-3.

The Texas Rangers improve to 37-40 with the victory. The team drew 36,311 fans to Globe Life Field for the Sunday matchup, ending a six-game losing streak against San Diego with this hard-fought win.
