Duran’s ninth-inning double sends Rangers past Giants, 5-4

Duran drove in four runs, including the decisive ground-rule double in the bottom of the ninth, as Texas beat San Francisco 5-4 at Globe Life Field.

Duran answers in the ninth

Duran drove in four runs, and his last swing decided it for the Texas Rangers in a 5-4 win over the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Globe Life Field.

After the Giants tied the game in the top of the ninth, Texas responded in the bottom half. Duran hit a ground-rule double that scored Burger and moved Seager to third, giving the Rangers the final run in a 5-4 victory.

Texas takes the first lead

The Rangers built an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Nimmo doubled to right, bringing home Pederson and sending Seager to third. Duran followed with a single to right that scored Seager and moved Nimmo to third.

Blade Tidwell pitched 5.0 innings for San Francisco, allowing 6 hits and 2 earned runs with 1 walk and 3 strikeouts. MacKenzie Gore pitched 6.0 innings for Texas, giving up 3 hits, 0 earned runs and 3 walks while striking out 4.

Giants rally twice

San Francisco pulled even in the top of the seventh on the game’s only home run. Basabe homered to left, a 377-foot shot that also scored Gilbert, tying the score at 2.

Texas moved back in front in the bottom of the eighth. Duran doubled to right, scoring Langford and Seager while Nimmo advanced to third, putting the Rangers ahead 4-2.

The Giants tied it again in the top of the ninth. Eldridge singled to right, scoring Gilbert and McCray to make it 4-4 before Texas answered in the bottom half.

Pitching decisions and records

Jacob Latz got the win for Texas, improving to 3-1, and was also charged with his third blown save. He pitched 1.0 inning, allowing 2 hits, 1 earned run and 1 walk with 1 strikeout.

Dylan Smith took the loss for San Francisco, falling to 0-4. He pitched 0.2 innings, allowing 2 hits, 1 earned run and 1 walk with 1 strikeout.

Robby Ahlstrom added 1.0 inning for Texas with 0 hits, 0 earned runs, 0 walks and 2 strikeouts. Peyton Gray pitched 0.1 inning, allowing 0 hits, 0 earned runs and 0 walks with 1 strikeout.

The Rangers improved to 56-58. The Giants fell to 48-66. Attendance was 26,959.
