Four-run third gives Texas control
The Rangers changed the game in the bottom of the third inning Wednesday, turning a scoreless matchup into a 4-0 lead against the San Francisco Giants at Globe Life Field.
Nimmo opened the scoring with a single to right that brought in Langford. Foscue then tripled to left, scoring Nimmo and Burger for a 3-0 Texas lead. Díaz added a double to left that scored Foscue, completing the Rangers’ four-run inning.
That inning gave Texas the only lead it needed in a 6-0 win, with the Rangers scoring all six runs and San Francisco finishing without a run.
Nimmo adds the only homer
Nimmo added to the lead in the bottom of the fifth with the game’s only home run, a 350-foot drive to left that made it 5-0.
Texas scored once more in the bottom of the eighth. Lopez singled to center, scoring Burger and moving Pederson to second for the final 6-0 margin.
Nimmo drove in two runs on the scoring plays. Foscue also drove in two, while Díaz and Lopez each drove in one for Texas.
Texas pitching completes the shutout
Cody Bradford worked 4 1/3 scoreless innings for Texas, allowing five hits and two walks while striking out five. Tyler Alexander earned the win, improving to 2-2 after 1 2/3 innings with no hits, no walks, no earned runs and three strikeouts.
Robby Ahlstrom pitched one inning, allowing one hit with no walks, no earned runs and one strikeout. Chase Silseth pitched one inning, allowing one hit and one walk with no earned runs and one strikeout. Cole Winn also pitched one inning, allowing one hit with no walks, no earned runs and no strikeouts.
Whisenhunt takes the loss
Carson Whisenhunt took the loss for San Francisco, falling to 2-3. He allowed four earned runs on five hits and three walks in 3 1/3 innings, striking out four.
Carson Seymour allowed one earned run on two hits and one walk in 2 2/3 innings, with two strikeouts. Jason Foley pitched one inning with no hits, no walks, no earned runs and one strikeout. Tristan Beck allowed one earned run on two hits and one walk in one inning, striking out one.
The announced attendance was 26,098. Texas improved to 57-58, while San Francisco fell to 48-67.
