Late Surge Secures Win
The Texas Longhorns overcame a resilient Oregon Ducks defense and a tight pitching duel with a decisive offensive burst in the eighth inning, defeating the Ducks 6-5 on Monday. The game remained tied or one-sided for long stretches, but A. Rodriguez’s double to left field provided the necessary insurance runs to seal the victory for the visitors.
Early Power and Wild Pitches
Texas established an early lead powered by home runs from A. Robbins and C. Tinney. Robbins opened the scoring in the first inning with a blast to left center, followed by Tinney’s home run to right center later in the frame. The Longhorns extended their advantage in the second inning through a combination of hitting and Oregon’s pitching struggles. Wild pitches by Will Sanford allowed D. Pendergrass to advance and score, while A. Robbins also crossed the plate on a separate wild pitch after walking. Tinney then singled to shallow left to drive in Pendergrass, making it 4-0.
Oregon responded in the second inning when N. Lauaki Jr. reached on an infield single to second, allowing D. Smith to score. The Ducks continued to chip away at the lead in the third inning. D. Smith doubled to left to bring home R. Cooney, and B. Jaksa singled to shallow right to score Smith, narrowing the gap to 4-3. Texas managed to hold the line until the fifth inning, where B. Mabeus grounded out to second, allowing A. Laya to score and make it 4-4. Jaksa added another run in the seventh inning, grounding out to shortstop to score Cooney, giving Oregon a 5-4 lead.
